Men’s League Week 5 results

Well… before we get started… how about

  • we make sure to deposit our scorecards in the Red Folgers can before we leave… and maybe that might involve NOT having a relay like “I gave it to so in so and after that I don’t know” … POSTSCRIPT… the card WAS in the CAN… early signs of dementia or maybe just sleep deprivation (but … please consider minimizing “hand offs”)
  • if you struggle with addition, don’t bother embarrassing yourselves… the league software only asks for accurate (and legible) hole scores and does its own calculations
  • we write our cards legibly so that our stenographer has an easier time entering scores (at least the ones that are turned in) into our league software and can then run reports and write witty blog posts:

OK that was your editorial content for the week… now onto the scores that I WAS able to enter… (Sorry I can’t run reports unless I have ALL of the scores… in fact I have to go back into event 4 post and RERUN those reports now that ALL matches were played… so stay tuned…

Ron had to give up two strokes (on 1,9) but otherwise this was straight up… mano a mano and it seemed like Ron / Kenny had a near one stroke edge on every hole in an otherwise competitive match. Kenny J threw his hat into ring for the “Nick Malaxos Sandbagger of the Year” trophy with a stellar 42 net 24!!! and dished out a 91-9 result to move up in the standings.
Derrick played Zac straight up, and after losing the first two holes went 4-1-2 for the last seven and his “dreaded other” (7) on the second hole gave Zac on one stroke medal play win. Lenny gave Justin two strokes and Justin gratefully accepted with a push on one and a straight up win on 9… but Lenny’s steady +2 over par on scoring holes 4 thru 8 overcame Justin’s fast start on holes 1-3 and win on 9.
Another runaway match where it just seemed like James / Ken always had an answer on every hole… Ken posted another net sub par round and will almost certainly graduate to “A” player next week
Jamie/Chris fell hard to Brian/Harry on Tuesday (Harry had a Wednesday appointment)… Brian played Jamie straight up and his 40 net 30 proved to be too much as Jamie scored +8 to Brian’s +3 over the last 3 holes. Chris had a pretty solid match getting 4 strokes and posting a very respectable 46 net 32 but Harry busted out a 40 net 30 and the match went to team lucky 13 74-26 … Are ‘da boyz on team lucky 7 still in first place or did they just “crap out”? Stay tuned…
Gary is still in a most uncharacteristic funk and Dustin’s tidy 34 net 27 just added insult to injury. Luckily partner Dan O’ picked up the slack with his own 37 net 28 to keep the match close. Perhaps taking on the “B side of the match next week will cure Gary of what ails him…?
Skip was on site when a sudden emergency called him back home… hope all is well, Skip! Bill Drew took up the cause shooting an outstanding 42 net 25 that could have easily been net round of the year if the 9th hole hadn’t taken back a few strokes from our latest “Nick Malaxos Sandbagger of the Year” candidate. Russ watched as Bill hit the flag on near pin #3 with a beautiful high draw then sunk his downhill 7′ birdie putt to take the near pin pot AND a skin… then almost score his THIRD hole in one on #8 shooting to 6″ for a tap-in birdie and perhaps another skin… 17 stroke handicap my A$$… He’ll tell you it was his forecaddie “Avalanche” that settled his nerves and stopped a few wild swings by jumping in front of Bill at crucial moments… Bill would reset and then calmly hit that high draw again and again…
Mitch posted his second round at net par or better in a row and in spite of only taking advantage of one of the 4 strokes he was given soundly defeated former Master of the Meadows champ Mike Lor by going 3-0-3 over the last 6 holes of his match. Jonathan came back strong after missing match 4 with a 41 net 30 to carry the day, and the match, 58-42

Near Pin (#3) was won by Bill Drew (7′ 4″) after a one hop flagstick strike… good for $58 (including the match 4 carryover) … by making that birdie putt, and combined with his 6″ tap-in par on #8 Bill grabbed 2 skins to make his weekly take $77. Mike Lor had the only par on #1 and Mitch Hull birdied #9 good for $9.75 each. There were a couple of close calls, too. Dan O’ and Justin cancelled each others pars on #2… John Z almost took a skin on #4 with a par, but Mitch Hull matched him. A par on #5 would have taken a skin – but all 13 players faulted. Next week we’ll play near pin on #4 so throw your $5 into the pot and win back some cash!
