…And Still…!!!

Sadly, and perhaps while experiencing the very best golf weather of the season, yet another Men’s Summer League concluded play this afternoon. Once again, the team of Mike Lor and Gary Hessberger have emerged deservedly triumphant – over the last month they’ve both played some of their best golf after a somewhat humdrum start. Even when playing against those teams poised to replace them at the top of the standings they rose, again and again, to the challenge. They finished league play today with matching net 30’s … best net scores of the week… Congratulations!

Our final Skins / Near Pin was on hole 8… three skins – Gary’s par on #1, Yvan’s par on #3, and Andrew’s birdie on #5 yielded $10 each … Andrew also picked up another $20 with his near pin effort on #8… a consolation after falling just one place short of winning it all…

Next Wednesday we hope to see you leaguers at the yearly banquet at MGC… perhaps before that you’ll play a practice round in preparation for the Inaugural Tin Cup 7 Iron Challenge … you’ll only need a couple of golf balls and … your 7 iron! We’ll be teeing off at 1PM Saturday, September 20 … Frankly I’d like to see a winner from amongst our ranks… so how about it?

Lenny… I mean Lanny stepped in for the missing Slaters and played a close match with Florencio, who took the match by a single (point) hole 4-3.
In the battle between 3rd and 4th place Mitch / Larry won the battle, but ultimately lost the war to Lenny / Derek
The “Original Giant Killers” got the job done on the first hole, winning 2-0 – the ultimate margin of victory as Kenny / Ron played them straight up 8-8 over the final 8 holes…
They began play at the 4th tee and while John/Bill won 5 holes in a row after dropping hole 4 2-0, they dropped the final 3 holes (1 to 3) 5 1/2 to 1/2 and dropped the match by a single point
It was a longshot – overcoming the defending champs – and there was no beating Mike / Gary over these last several weeks… Congratulations to the two time consecutive champs!
