The Home Stretch – Men’s Wk17

Well Wednesday proved to be as rainy as rainy can get (tropical storm Ida dropped 1.75 inches of rain) so now our week 17 matches are scattered – we got three matches completed Thursday; we’re anticipating more matches today and Saturday.

We need to complete these matches ASAP as next Wednesday is the last match followed by our annual league dinner. Fall league starts September 15… are you playing???

At the top of the standings – Mitch and Larry Hull faced off against Dustin and Casey. It took 7 holes before Mitch / Larry won a hole, and overall the match for them went one hole won, six holes lost, two holes tied and the point totals reflected that: final score Dustin/Casey 72, Mitch/Larry 18.

The other top 6 match: Zach / Justin edged Christopher / Jamie by the slimmest of margins… 46-44 : the medal play (stroke) totals provided the margin of victory.

Ron / Kenny beat substitute of last resort Russ / Bill Drew 59.5 – 30.5 sweeping all 12 medal (stroke) points and winning four holes, losing three, and tying two in the match

After dropping the first hole, Brian / Harry dispatched Russel and Ghost B by winning five and tying three of the final 8 holes to roll to an easy 67.5 – 22.5 victory.

Lenny / Derrick dropped the first hole of their match to DanO / Mike but then swept 5 of the next 8 holes (7-0) to roll to a big win on Saturday morning.

On Labor Day, defending champs Daniel Eignor / Gary Hessberger barely edged Tony / Lou 47 -43 … stroke play points were the difference as Tony / Lou won 4, lost 1, and tied 1 in the first 6 holes before dropping the final 3 holes in a close contest.

In the final match of week 17 played Tuesday afternoon James / Ken hop back into first place with a convincing win over Mike / Jonathan. In week 18 play immediately following their week 17 match James / Ken face 2nd place Dustin / Casey for “all the marbles”

Dustin/Casey win straight up as Dustin split hole #1 and the team wins both gross / net and match
Closest match of the year? Medal play points provide the margin of victory for Zach / Justin
Ron / Kenny jumped out to a 20-8 lead after 5 holes and didn’t look back taking all 12 medal (stroke) points to finish up with a big win
Brian / Harry played well on Friday and dispatched Russel and Ghost B easily
Lenny / Derrick play net par golf and roll to a big win
Daniel / Gary win on the narrowest of margins via medal (stroke) play points after falling way behind (29.5 – 12.5) after 6 holes…the final 3 holes they won 19-2 and only edged Tony / Lou via strokes.
James / Ken win convincingly 56.5 – 33.5 as James hangs tough to match Mike Lor’s net 32 and Ken beats Jonathan head-to-head. This leaves James / Ken in 1st place going into our final week.
