And at the finish… It’s …

Well if not for your administrator deciding to have a senior moment while entering week 18’s scores… it might have seemed easy to realize that Jamie / Chris won the league in a runaway… a wire to wire … week 1 to week 18 (well almost anyway) hold on first place earned them the 2022 league title… Congratulations to you both – you were a model of consistent good team play!

It was a longer than usual day for me… course setup (greens, tees, fairways cut) took me until 1PM and then it was 5+ hours of chaos (would I ever do it any other way?) putting together your sides, reverse searing your steaks, etc… I hope you all enjoyed what I aspire to be my LAST men’s league banquet working without a fully employed staff… Here’s to 2023… may our league be bigger and much better than ever before — you all make that possible so Thank You!

Skins / Near Pin … 15 players – $75 pot …Well John Zummo picked up a birdie on the toughest hole (statistically) on the course… #1… (he also was low net on the week and continues to lower his handicap – now moving into the low teens. His partner Yvan is playing right with him as both are now legit teen handicappers and may now be considered the “Giant Killers” … though (ex?) Giant Killer Lou (I never enter skins / near pin) Capello left both a skin and a near pin cash award on the table with a very fine birdie on #6. Among the guys who did throw their sawbuck into the pot regular skin winner Mike Lor had his name on the near pin board… but he was edged out by Brian Wheaton who plunked his $30 tee shot inside Mike’s (but not nearly as close as Lou’s) Now John Zummo wasn’t the only skin out there… Your new champion Christopher Stephens hit a sweet birdie on toughest par 3… #3 so he and John will split that $45 skins pot … $22.50 each.

We’ll start our FALL league next week so do let me know if you’re playing so I can gain a sense of our league schedule… postulate a league fee … contemplate a round robin vs a divisional setup … playoff … etc etc. lots to ruminate over…

I’ve run a couple of extra reports (now that I remembered to enter ALL of your week 18 scores) for you to look at…

or the second week in a row the Giant Killers v2.0 lay the wood on their opponents – this time against the Giant Killers v1.0 … the originals… Tony was a little off but Lou’s reasonable net 34 was no match for red hot John Zummo’s 41 net 25 nor Yvan’s 43 net 29… their combined net 54 was best of the week.
Apparently all of the drama and suspense was over before the first tee shot as the eventual champs blasted out of the gate and never looked back as they overtook the week 17 leaders winning 7 holes, and losing and tying only 1 hole each
A REALLY CLOSE match that the final score just doesn’t do justice. The net scores tell a story; it appears that the 6th and 7th holes were the back breakers for team 3 as they were up 21-19 through 5
Lenny played Mitch tough – taking points on all 4 holes he was getting a stroke but it was substitute Tim Maxim’s 36 net 28 that ruled the day.
It was nice seeing grandson Sam out with Kenny in week 18 … and they were up 20-12 after four holes but the match was over when Brian / Harry posted a 31-1 stretch and coasted to a win in spite of giving up strokes on the 9th hole and dropping it 8-0
Except for a blip on the 4th hole Dustin / Casey had this match (and ultimately 3rd place) firmly in their grasp from the get-go.
Dan / Gary were up 35-13 after 6 holes; Marcel / Florencio’s late surge was too little, too late.
