Match 17 – and now the sprint to the finish!

More than 5″ of rain fell on MGC over the last two days, and conditions reflected that our soils, end to end, were at field capacity. There was no standing water, nor did anything squish underfoot, but conditions today were… different. Greens were cut for the first time since Sunday and while they ran they were considerably slower than they’ve often been through July and August. Chips that just a week ago ran past the hole and through the green suddenly checked up leaving long par putts that no longer took the breaks that they did on Sunday… that’s my excuse for an ill-functioning flat stick… how about you?

We’ve got a week to figure things out… one more match to determine who gets the guaranteed moolah and who has to hope that Julie picks their name(s) out of the hat. Jamie and Chris have their one and only chance to regain their place atop the league – where they’ve been for pretty much the WHOLE SEASON – as fortune has it they’ll play surging Justin/Zac who have now climbed into the lead at a most opportune time.

Defending champs Dustin/Casey have also ridden a hot streak into the money as they just keep rolling on now for the third week in a row… not sure if anybody else can break into the top 3 but it only takes one fateful week – an 85-15 score can make up a lot of ground in a hurry…

On the near pin / skins front congratulations go out to DanO’ who stuck his tee shot on #8 to 11′ 11″ for a $32 win… He won a $16 skin also… with the lone par on #1 … Bill Drew grabbed a $16 skin with a par on #2, and Tony Tanner picked up a $16 skin with the lone par on #3 … No birdies this week – guess that rascally groundskeeper put those pins “on the knobs” … serves him right … five three putts…

Are you playing FALL LEAGUE? Figure charges to be about $5/week per man … we’ll figure out league length based on number of teams… try to get a round robin in, at least… Let us know soon via text, phone, email, or in person if you can…

John/Yvan started slow, falling back 18-6 after the first three holes before coming on strong winning holes 4-7 by a 27-5 margin to win the match handily
In a make-or-break match Justin/Zac won 5 holes, lost 2, and tied 2 and despite losing by a net stroke managed to pull out a win and leapt into first place.
In a match they described as “the battle for 6th place” Ken / James rode a one stroke net win to a close victory over Lenny / Derek
The “Giant Killers” caught Skip/Bill on an off week to take a decisive win into the final stanza
Every hole seemed to be won or lost decicively… each team won 2 and lost 2 holes 7-1 … Mike/Jonathan took 3 holes 8-0; Jamie/Chris on took 2 holes 8-0 … resulting in a big win for team 14.
Dustin/Casey solidified their hold on 3rd place with solid net 31/30 in a match that was almost, but not quite, competitive.

  1. Russ check our score card Mitch had a bird on # 4 not a par I was sure I wrote down a 2 and circled it but I could be wrong.

    1. Hi Larry, I found it strange that Mitch’s “3” on the scorecard was circled but entered it as a “3” … makes sense that it was a “2” and I’ll put it in as such and rerun and repost all of the reports.
